The Yulee High School softball team edged West Nassau 3-2 in the regional quarterfinal round to advance to the semifinal round. The YHS Hornets take on host Crawfordville at 7 p.m. tonight in the Region 1-3A tournament.
Pirates at state
Fernandina Beach High School sent two athletes to the state track and field meet at UNF. Junior Sam Colwell placed 11th in the boys high jump (6 feet 1.5 inches), and freshman Maya Kovalcik finished seventh in the girls 1,600-meter run (5:13.08).
Braves spring champs
The 12-and-under Braves defeated the Cubs in the title game to capture the Major League spring championship. Registration is open for a fall senior division for players phasing out of 12u.
Coach Twardy a finalist
Fernandina Beach High School track coach Sarah Twardy is a finalist for state teacher of the year. Congrats, Coach!
Gumball 3000 SK8 Jam on June 5
In collaboration with the Gumball 3000 on June 5 in downtown Fernandina Beach, the Gumball 3000 SK8 Jam will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the Poe Pinson Skate Park at Main Beach.
The Gumball 3000 will bring more than 100 supercars to Centre Street from 6-9 p.m. And, it’s free and open to the public.

Free sports physicals will be offered June 6 at the fifth annual Health & Safety Expo, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the YMCA at Wildlight.

Jaguars Prowl 5K set
The Jaguars Prowl 5K is set for Aug. 22 at Riverfront Plaza, beginning at 8 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Jaguars Foundation and area youth sports organizations. Fees are $55.43 for the 5K run and $39.38 for the one-mile fun run.
