Yulee tops West Nassau in semifinal round of district tournament; FBHS wins quarterfinal matchup

The Pirate softball team hosted the Vikings Monday in the first round of the district tournament. The Fernandina Beach High School softball team beat Raines in a 20-1 rout in the lone quarterfinal matchup of the District 3-3A tournament.

Paxon, the top seed, blanked the Pirates 15-0 Tuesday in the semifinal round, eliminating FBHS.

The No. 2 and 3 seeds battled it out Tuesday in the other semifinal matchup. Yulee (No. 3) beat West Nassau 6-2 to advance to the title game.

Paxon (14-7) and Yulee (11-10) square off at 6 p.m. today, April 30, in the district championship game.

In their matchup with West Nassau, Yulee batters collected seven hits, including two apiece from Franki Tucker, Kyli Mathis (home run and three RBIs), Harper Crews (double, RBI) and Carmen Overstreet (home run).

Freshman Paislie Turner got the win on the mound. She gave up one run on four hits, walked four and struck out two in 5.2 innings.
