Contractors will make changes to the traffic pattern at the Amelia Island Parkway and Buccaneer Trail Roundabout project next week, a recent release said.
Crews are scheduled to perform a lane shift during overnight hours to minimize daytime disruptions for commuters. The work will involve temporary lane reductions and the use of flaggers.
The schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, Jan. 21 through Thursday, Jan. 22 (7 p.m. to 5 a.m.): Crews will perform lane shift modifications, including restriping on Amelia Island Parkway. Drivers should expect temporary lane reductions and flaggers during these hours.
- Thursday, Jan. 22 through Friday, Jan. 23 (7 p.m. to 5 a.m.): Crews will install a low-profile barrier wall to establish the shifted lanes on Amelia Island Parkway and establish the closure to Buccaneer Trail. Similar nighttime restrictions will apply.
Daytime work will follow in subsequent days. According to the release, performing this work at night aligns with constructability best practices for traffic control per Florida Department of Transportation standards. Taking a phased construction approach helps maintain access for those who travel through the area frequently.
The new roundabout is part of ongoing mobility improvements throughout Nassau County. It is designed to enhance safety by reducing conflict points while improving traffic flow.
