By Beth Jones

The Pirates are 10-1. The Fernandina Beach High School boys golf team tacked on its 10th win of the season Thursday at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club, where they hosted the West Nassau Warriors.

The FBHS Pirates prevailed 143-169, with junior Colson Hale steering the way with a one-under-par 34. Teammates senior Brady Steffen and junior Jake Chenoweth fired 36s. Hudson Dye shot a 37, Lucas Lomond posted a 44, and Harrison Blackard had a 47. All three are juniors at FBHS.

The Pirates fired an even-par 144 in their win over Bishop Kenny (158) on Sept. 30 at Blue Cypress. Hale and Steffen shot 35s to lead the Pirates. Dye and freshman Wood Young had 37s, freshman Sam Chenoweth shot a 38, and Jake Chenoweth had a 40.

FBHS was one over on Oct. 8, edging Fletcher 145-148 at Amelia River Golf Club. Hale fired a 34, Jake Chenoweth had a 35, Steffen a 37, Dye and Sam Chenoweth 39s and Young a 42.

The Pirates collected their ninth win of the season the next afternoon at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. They beat Yulee 151-180.

Hale led with a 34, followed by Steffen (35), Jake Chenoweth and senior Douglas Stacy (41s), Dye (43) and senior Jacob Kovalcik (53).

“Super proud of the boys’ achievement for the season,” said Christina Steffen, head coach for the FBHS boys and girls golf teams. “With the boys shooting even par to one to two over as a team shows how talented the group is overall.”

The Pirates host Hilliard Tuesday at Amelia River and take on Bolles Wednesday at Hidden Hills in the regular season matchup.

The FBHS boys and girls golf teams host the district tournament Oct. 27 at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Boys play at 8 a.m., and the girls tee off at 10 a.m.
