Welcome to this edition of our weekly community update, designed to keep you informed about ongoing developments and initiatives throughout our city. This week’s report features highlights of recent progress, updates on municipal projects, and key announcements impacting our community. Providing transparency and engagement is both a privilege and a responsibility we take seriously. Your input and involvement continue to play a vital role in shaping our collective decisions and establishing priorities as we work together toward our shared goals.
Projects/Operations
- Kings Bay Maintenance Dredging: The annual maintenance dredging of the Kings Bay Entrance Channel is getting underway. Equipment mobilization begins January 23 at the Dolphin Parking Lot at Main Beach, which will be used as a staging area. The project is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and will place sand on the northern end of Amelia Island.
- Downtown Paid Parking: Paid parking within Fernandina Beach Downtown begins February 16. Pre-registration for annual permits begins February 1; visit fbfl.us/parking for more information.
- Roundabout Construction (Amelia Island Pkwy & Buccaneer Trail): Construction begins January 21. This Nassau County-managed and funded project should be complete by early summer. Drivers should expect traffic detours during this time.
- Sidewalk & Curbing: Replacement is underway throughout City limits. Residents aware of damaged sidewalks are encouraged to report them to operations@fbfl.org.
- Main Beach Maintenance: Fire damage recently destroyed a trash cart enclosure at Main Beach; replacement cans have been ordered.
News/Promotions
- Resiliency Award: The City is honored to have received the Northeast Florida Regional Council award for resiliency for its Flood Adaptation Plan.
- Tree City USA: The City of Fernandina Beach has received its 24th year of national recognition as a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation.
- Wednesday Farmer’s Market Move: The market has moved from the Publix Plaza on Sadler Road to the 8 Flags Shopping Center (14th Street, same lot as Club 14). It is held weekly from 7:00 am until 2:00 pm.
- Commission Visioning Session: A Goal Setting Workshop is scheduled for February 12, 2026, at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club (2700 Bill Melton Ave.).
Upcoming Calendar
- Jan. 19, 2026 (MLK Day): City offices are closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
- Jan. 19, 2026 (12:00 pm): MLK Jr. Parade starting at the Peck Center before following the normal parade route.
- Jan. 30, 2026 (6:00 pm): Italian Night at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Call 904-310-3185 to RSVP.
