City of Fernandina Beach project updates for the week of Dec. 19, 2025

Welcome to this edition of our weekly community update, designed to keep you informed about ongoing developments and initiatives throughout our city. This week’s report features highlights of recent progress, updates on municipal projects, and key announcements impacting our community. Providing transparency and engagement is both a privilege and a responsibility we take seriously. Your input and involvement continue to play a vital role in shaping our collective decisions and establishing priorities as we work together toward our shared goals.

City of Fernandina Beach Project Updates

Projects/Operations:

  • Annual Financial Audit: The city’s annual financial audit is nearing completion. The results will be published to the Commission and the community in March.
  • Beach Access No. 33: The rehabilitation of the beach boardwalk at Access No. 33 is complete. This access is back open for use.
  • Old Town Preservation Guidelines: The city’s Planning and Conservation Department is seeking feedback on revisions to the Old Town Preservation Guidelines. A communication engagement session will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. at the Fernandina Plaza Historic State Park (201 Estrada St.).
  • Arbor Day Celebration: The city will plant East Palatka holly trees on South 10th Street near the Peck Center track on Jan. 16, 2026, in celebration of Arbor Day.
  • Buccaneer Trail and Amelia Island Parkway Roundabout: Pre-construction meetings have commenced for the construction of a roundabout at this intersection. This Nassau County-managed project will begin soon; details will be shared as they become available.
  • Youth Advisory Committee: The committee hosted a successful Gen Z-themed trivia night fundraiser at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club.
  • Amelia River Waterfront Park: Progress continues on the park, which is slated to open early next year.

News/Promotions:

  • FPU “Name the Shrimp” Contest: FPU is hosting a contest with a winner receiving $500. Submit your vote at fpuc.com/nametheshrimp/.
  • Airport Master Plan Update: A master plan update is being prepared for the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport to identify needs and potential development over the next 20 years. Input is being sought from the public via survey. Take the Survey Here.

Upcoming Calendar:

  • Dec. 24-25, 2025: City offices closed in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
  • Dec. 31, 2025: Shrimp Drop at Marina Waterfront, 5-8 p.m. (Shrimp drops at 7 p.m. followed by fireworks).
  • Jan. 1, 2026: City offices closed in observance of New Year’s Day.
