The season got underway Tuesday night for the Fernandina Beach High School girls basketball team. The FBHS Pirates soundly defeated the Kodiaks 41-7.
“That game was a statement piece,” said India Santana, first-year head coach at FBHS, her alma mater. “It was about our presence. Stepping onto that court and saying we are here and we aren’t going anywhere. Lots of improvements to be made, but we are focused. The girls are ready and have bought in a long time ago.”
FBHS plays at Sandalwood at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Nov. 20, and heads to Yulee Friday, Nov. 21, for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Hornets.
