Hornets host round one Nov. 14; Pirates play tonight in quarterfinal
The Hornets are home Nov. 14, when they host West Florida in the first round of the playoffs. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
The Yulee High School football team, band and cheerleaders gathered in the gym on Thursday for a playoff watch party to learn whom and where they would play.
The Hornets (8-2) beat Pedro Menendez in the regular season finale last week.
They’re not the only Nassau County team in the state playoffs. The Fernandina Beach Pirates (6-5) and the West Nassau Warriors (10-1) are making their way through the Atlantic division in the Sunshine State Athletic Association championship playoffs.
FBHS beat Bell 48-21 last Friday in the first round of the playoffs, and the Pirates are back home tonight with Paxon for a quarterfinal matchup. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Warriors beat Stanton 48-12 last Friday in the first round, and West Nassau faces Umatilla (11-0) tonight in another quarterfinal showdown.
The semifinal round is Nov. 14.

The high school football season may be in full swing, but the Fernandina Youth Football Association is looking ahead to spring. Flag football registration is open for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The league is open to all skill levels, and everyone gets to play. Register by Jan. 2. Player evaluations are Jan. 5-7, and the season kicks off Jan. 23.

Order poinsettias, help softball team
The Yulee High School softball team is taking orders for poinsettias, so you can decorate for the holidays and help the team with its fundraising efforts.
Stingers Softball booster club is selling 22-inch standard red, white and pink poinsettias ($15), 10-inch fern baskets ($15) and 10-inch red and white hanging poinsettia baskets ($25).
Cash, checks and Venmo (@stingerssoftball2024) are accepted. Delivery will be on Dec. 4 at the YHS softball field.
