
Welcome to this edition of our weekly community update, designed to keep you informed about ongoing developments and initiatives throughout our city. This week’s report features highlights of recent progress, updates on municipal projects, and key announcements impacting our community. Providing transparency and engagement is both a privilege and a responsibility we take seriously. Projects/Operations:
- The Fernandina Beach Pirates Club is working with the city to transport Peg Leg Pete to the Amelia Island Museum of History for preservation.
- The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be making intersection improvements at South Fletcher and Jasmine St. This project will involve new signalization and pedestrian crossings. Work is expected to begin the second week of October.
- Atlantic Seafood, located at the Downtown waterfront, is undergoing a structural review. The next steps of this facility will be dependent upon the findings of the structural assessment.
- The first phase of street resurfacing is going to Commission on Oct. 7 for review/approval. Paving is scheduled to begin Nov. 1.
- A city Commission workshop will be held on Oct. 7 to present an update on the proposed paid parking program contract negotiations.
- A ceremony to officially open the new batting cages at Buccaneer Fields will take place on Friday, Oct. 3, at 4:30 p.m.
- The city is working with the Florida Department of Transportation on intersection improvements.
- Palm tree pruning in the downtown area of Fernandina Beach.
- The city will be closing beach access 35, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 30, for redecking. Work is expected to take about one month.
- The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Community Craft and Yard Sale on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Atlantic Recreation Center. Booths are available for $20. Call 904-310-3350 to reserve a space.
- Thank you to everyone for coming out to our fall festival last weekend! We appreciate all the local organizations that set up tables and to the Youth Advisory Committee members who volunteered.
