The Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival returns May 1–3, bringing more than 150,000 visitors to historic downtown Fernandina Beach. If you’re planning to attend, here’s a quick guide to parking options and road closures.

Paid parking waived downtown
The city’s downtown paid parking program will be temporarily suspended during festival weekend, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 30 through 8 p.m. Sunday, May 3. Visitors can park in downtown spaces for free during this time.
Official festival parking lots
Two main parking options are available, both benefiting local charities:
- Park & Ride (Fernandina Beach High School)
- $15 donation
- Includes free air-conditioned shuttle to the festival
- Park & Walk (Buccaneer Field/Central Park)
- $20 donation
- Short walk to downtown festival area
Free and neighborhood parking
- Free, legal street parking is available in surrounding neighborhoods
- Some private properties may offer paid parking as fundraisers
Handicap Accessible parking
Designated accessible parking (with valid permit) is available at:
- Library lot at Alachua Street and Fourth Street
- Ash Street between Fourth and Fifth streets
Road closures
Expect significant street closures throughout the weekend:
- Centre Street and side streets
- From Front Street through Seventh Street
- Closed to all vehicular traffic
What to expect
Organizers say parking will operate much like it has in past years, despite recent changes to the city’s parking system. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, arrive early and consider using the shuttle option for convenience.
The annual festival — now in its 61st year — features hundreds of vendors, live entertainment, a parade, fireworks and the popular Blessing of the Fleet.
