Fernandina Beach, Florida, Commissioner Genece Minshew has officially announced her candidacy for Mayor of Fernandina Beach in the November 2026 election, according to a recent release.
Under the City Charter of Fernandina Beach, the mayor serves in a ceremonial leadership role, presiding over City Commission meetings, signing official city documents, and representing the city at important civic functions. The position is selected from among the three sitting commissioners who are not up for election or reelection, a recent release stated.
“I am honored to submit my name for consideration as Mayor of Fernandina Beach,” said Minshew in a recent release. “Serving our community has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I look forward to working together for the good of our city.”
Minshew emphasized that while the mayor’s role is largely ceremonial, it carries an important responsibility to provide steady leadership, foster collaboration and ensure the City Commission conducts its work openly and effectively, noted a recent release.
“As Mayor, I will continue to focus on long-term planning and thoughtful fact-based decision-making to ensure the continued success of our city,” Minshew said, in the release.
