The tennis season is in full swing, and the Pirates are 1-1. The Fernandina Beach High School tennis teams hosted Yulee on Feb. 3 and Bolles on Feb. 5 to open the season.
The FBHS boys defeated Yulee 6-1 and lost to Bolles 5-1.

In the Yulee match, Ronan Thomas (YHS) defeated Jacob Kovalcik 8-4; Peter Colwell (FBHS) beat Matthew Harger 8-0; Nate Cole (FBHS) defeated Lucas Angeli 8-0; Douglas Stacy Jr. (FBHS) beat Robert Niles 8-1; and Jack DeMille (FBHS) beat Wyatt Underwood 8-3 in the singles matches.
Kovalcik and Colwell beat Thomas and Harger 8-5 and Trey Bunn and DeMille defeated Angeli and Niles 8-1 in the doubles matches.
Against Bolles, Cole and Stacy tied their doubles opponents 3-3 and Ethan Ross and Ashton Allen’s doubles match also resulted in a 3-3 tie.
The FBHS girls beat Yulee 7-0 and lost to Bolles 4-3.
Against Yulee, Berkeley Burkhart defeated Ruby Walker 8-2; Maya Kovalcik defeated Magda Urbanowicz 8-3; Paris Marlin beat Anna Harger 8-0; Brooklyn Logsdon defeated Abigail Harger 8-2; and Emilia Cole beat Chloe Carrero 8-2 in singles matchups.
In doubles, Burkart and Kovalcik beat Walker and Urbanowicz 8-2 and Marlin and Cole defeated the Hargers 8-1.
Burkhart (8-6), Kovalcik (8-2) and Marlin (8-4) had singles wins for FBHS.
The Pirate netters host Harvest Community today, Feb. 10.
