The Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library will transform the Peck Center Gym into a massive pop-up bookstore from March 11 through March 14, offering more than 10,000 items with most priced at $3 or less. The annual spring event, located at 510 S. 10th St., serves as a major fundraiser for local literacy programs and offers a “treasure trove” for readers looking to “escape into poolside oblivion.”
Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library board member Nancy Jordan said spring “is ‘sort of, kinda, almost, possibly, maybe here,’ and that means it is time for local book lovers to come out of hibernation and head to the Peck Center Gym for the Friends of the Fernandina Beach Library’s Spring Book Sale.”
Fresh Genres and Classic Favorites
This year, the sale is evolving alongside modern reading trends. In addition to thousands of bestsellers, biographies and cookbooks, the Friends of the Library (FOL) are introducing exciting new categories.
“And this year, there are a few new exciting genres – Romantacy, Manga and Comics!” Jordan noted. She also encourages parents to “ask your kids” about the new Romantasy and Manga additions that are joining the traditional lineup of mysteries, WWII history and memoirs.
Shoppers can also browse:
- Specialty Finds: Large-print editions, big impressive coffee table books, and “old and unusual” titles, some of which are signed by their authors.
- Fun & Games: Puzzles, audiobooks and children’s books from baby titles to young adult.
- Home & Garden: Cookbooks “essential for every kitchen,” gardening guides and decor books for designer looks.
Schedule of Events
The sale kicks off with an exclusive preview for members before opening to the general public. While some materials had listed alternate dates, the official Spring schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, March 11 (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.): Members-only pre-sale. Non-members can join at the door or online at fernandinafol.org.
- Thursday, March 12 (9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.): Open to the public.
- Friday, March 13 (9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.): Open to the public.
- Saturday, March 14 (9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Final day of shopping.
A Community Effort
Every book in the sale has been donated by the community, with 100% of the proceeds going directly toward supporting the Fernandina Beach Library. Beyond the fundraising, the event serves as a cornerstone for local engagement.
Reflecting on the impact of the sale, Jordan shared her gratitude for the community’s involvement, saying, “Thanks to all of you who help us promote literacy and lifelong learning in our community.”
For those looking to get involved before the doors open, the FOL is still seeking volunteers. Interested residents can contact the team at booksale@fernandinafol.org or visit fernandinafol.org for more information.
