The University of US resumed classes this month following a fall semester with record attendance, according to a release from the U.S. Constitution Scholarship Foundation.
Students attend from the four public Nassau County high schools, the home education community, and Lindisfarne Hall along with other high school students who reside in Nassau County. The next class, “Amendments to the Constitution,” meets at 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 26 at the Bean Center at FSCJ in Yulee with Judge James Daniel as lecturer.
One highlight from the first semester was the “Federalist Papers” class, in which Howard Pines and Caleb Bryan led the class discussion in full costume, portraying Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. The two historic figures answered interview questions from student reporters during the fun, lively session.
The University of US is the flagship program of the U.S. Constitution Scholarship Foundation, which will provide over $60,000 in scholarships and awards this year, the release said. Students who pass the University of US final exam will receive a Certificate of Graduation. Juniors and seniors who graduate will be eligible to compete for five scholarships in the Essay Competition. The top two winners will each receive a $10,000 scholarship, the other three winners will each receive a $5,000 scholarship, and two outstanding students will each receive a $1,000 Leadership scholarship.
The seventh annual Constitution Bowl will be held Monday, April 9, at Wildlight Elementary. The four first-place team members will each receive a $2,000 scholarship, the second-place team members will each receive a $1,000 scholarship, and the third-place team members receive a $250 scholarship.
