The Pirate swimmers competed in the 2A meet Wednesday at the Frank Brown Aquatic Center in Panama City Beach. The Fernandina Beach High School girls swim team placed fifth, and the boys team finished sixth.

Four region champions were crowned and advance to state. Skylar Revere took first place in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events; Logan Cook won the 200-yard individual medley, and Cora Foxwell-Jones won the 100-yard backstroke.

Also qualifying for state is the second-place girls 200-yard medley relay team of Foxwell-Jones, Rileigh and Skylar Revere and Shelby Rothenberg. Cook also advances with his second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Skylar Revere set a new school record in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events, and Rileigh Revere set a new one in the 200-yard individual medley.

Coach Bill Stewart said the team must wait until Saturday to see if at-large state selections will send more Pirates to state.

“Based on our times, we should be adding more splashes,” Stewart said.
