The Hornets never gave up a game in their four wins this fall, including Thursday’s 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 victory over the Pirates.
Junior Jasmine Douglas and junior Kaveri Harris had 16 kills apiece for Yulee. Tinsley Evatt, a sophomore, had three aces. Mylie Breutzmann, a junior at YHS, had 13 digs. Senior Rylee Corcoran recorded 33 assists.
Senior Ava Maggart had seven kills for FBHS, and Leni Domenick, also a senior, had five. Senior Zatie Venditt and Domenick had two aces each, and Venditti led the team with eight assists. Junior Claire Wilson had five digs for the Pirates.
The Yulee High School volleyball team improved to 4-1. YHS sandwiched wins over visiting Hilliard (3-0) on Aug. 29, Beaches Chapel (3-0) on Aug. 22, West Nassau (3-0) on Aug. 26 and Thursday’s win over FBHS around their lone loss to Harvest Community (3-0) on Aug. 25. The Hornets host First Coast at 7 p.m. today, Sept. 2. They play at Glynn Academy at 7 p.m. Thursday.
FBHS (2-3) travels to Fletcher on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match. The Pirates lost their season opener to Episcopal 3-0 on Aug. 19, rebounding to beat Hilliard 3-1 on Aug. 21 and Andrew Jackson 3-0 on Aug. 26. FBHS lost to Bishop Snyder 3-2 on Aug. 27.
