The Hornets opened the season with a win over Hilliard. The Yulee High School volleyball team beat the visiting Red Flashes 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 on Tuesday at YHS.
Junior Kaveri Harris had 14 kills. Junior Kamryn Batson and sophomore Lilyan Marlin-Eubank-Espinosa had four aces apiece. Sophomore Tinsley Evatt had four blocks. Harris had 10 digs, and junior Mylie Breutzmann had seven. Senior Rylee Corcoran had 18 assists.
Yulee has a new coach this fall, Dorri Chin.
“I’m entering my first year with the Hornets, and I’m really looking forward to building a strong, competitive program here at Yulee,” Chin said. “We return a talented roster highlighted by our captains, Kaveri Harris and Brooke Reid, whose leadership and skill set the tone for the season. Alongside them, Kamryn Batson brings depth and consistency to a group that has already shown tremendous potential.
“This preseason, we’ve worked incredibly hard, and it was electric to see all of our plays come to life and be executed on the court. The energy from our team carried over to the stands, and our crowd was absolutely amped — it felt like the start of something special. What excites me the most about this team is not just their talent, but the way every single player brings a great attitude, strong energy and a competitive mindset. Their work ethic and drive are clear every time we step on the court, and that gives me confidence that we can go far this season.
“With a strong core of players, a relentless work ethic and the support of our community, I believe Yulee volleyball is prepared to make this a memorable and successful year.”
Yulee (1-0) travels to Beaches Chapel Friday and Harvest Community on Monday. The Hornets head to Callahan Tuesday to play West Nassau and are back home Aug. 28 with Fernandina Beach. All matches start at 7 p.m. Purchase tickets at GoFan.co.
