The Yulee High School wrestling team hosted the Joe Bees Memorial Battle of the Border Jan. 2-3.

The Yulee High School grapplers hosted the annual Joe Bees Memorial Battle of the Border Jan. 2-3. The Hornet wrestlers finished third.

“I think our performance is absolutely heading in the right direction,” said Mike Blasucci, head wrestling coach at YHS. “Our varsity boys team finished third by one team point that was decided by the last individual match in the tournament. While I’m not ecstatic about third place, our underclassmen are starting to pick up the better techniques and understanding needed to perform well in the postseason.”

With just four competitors, the YHS girls team captured first place.

“Our girls did fantastic,” Blasucci said. “I think they just prove every week that they’re getting better.

“Our JV boys team also got some great matches in, and there’s definitely some varsity guys in the making there, a lot of potential in the coming months and years. All in all, I’m very proud of how far we’ve come from where we started the season, and I’m excited to see where we’ll go.”
