It’s fall, and there is a flurry of activity in Nassau County. Students have returned to school, teams are weeks into their seasons, and they’re kicking off the fundraising season.
The Fernandina Beach High School swim team will hold a car wash Saturday, Sept. 13, after practice. The fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center.
The Pirate swimmers are raising money for senior banners. There is no charge for the car wash, but donations are welcome.
Pirates on parade
Fernandina Beach High School will celebrate homecoming next week, and the school is looking for participants in its annual parade. The parade will be held at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in downtown Fernandina Beach.
Clubs, teams, organizations, FBHS staff and local business are invited to participate, in or along the parade route. The theme is “Pirates Go Back in Time.”
Lineup begins at 3:45 p.m. along Beech Street at Buccaneer Field. Participants may hand out candy or other items, but they may not throw anything during the parade.
The FBHS football team hosts the Santa Fe Raiders that night, and the team’s colors are red and gold.
Anyone interested in participating should contact Rob Hicks at ricksro@nassau.k12.fl.us or 904-261-5714 by Sept. 18.
FBMS homecoming
The high schoolers aren’t the only ones preparing for homecoming. Fernandina Beach Middle School students will celebrate homecoming with a dance from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 4 in the gym. It’s a masquerade ball for the FBMS Pirates, so dress to impress.
Tickets are $10 and will be sold during lunch starting Monday, Sept. 22. Only students with no referrals may attend.
NSFA monthly social
The Nassau Sport Fishing Association will hold its monthly social at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Kraft Athletic Club. Email info@nsfafish.net for more information.
Eighth-grade showcase
The top eighth-grade football players in Nassau County will be showcased at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at West Nassau High School, 1 Warrior Drive, Callahan. Nominate a player.
