Streak snapped for FBMS Pirates

By Beth Jones

Another winning streak was snapped on Tuesday. The Fernandina Beach Middle School football team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to visiting Trinity Christian 41-22. The FBMS Pirates are 5-1.

“The boys played hard, and we had a lead in the second half,” said Raleigh Green, head football coach at FBMS. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t hold on to it and let them pull away in the fourth quarter.

“Trinity has a really good team, and we didn’t capitalize on a few opportunities early in the game that would have put us in a really good situation. It was tough, but we are looking forward to getting back on the field at Bolles next week.”

Jakaden Myers found the end zone three times for FBMS. He scored on a 61-yard reception, rushed eight times for 31 yards and another Pirate TD and returned a kickoff 71 yards for a touchdown. On the other side of the ball, Myers recorded six tackles and an assist.

Pirate quarterback Connor Goodman completed five of 18 pass attempts for 92 yards and a touchdown. Chance Whitaker reeled in three of those passes for 32 yards.

Jakob Floyd had three tackles and four assists and recovered a fumble, Marhean Coleman had a pair of tackles, one for a loss, and four assists and Bryce Schrader intercepted a pass.

Ray Bell had a trio of tackles, and Cash Dewitt had three assists and a tackle for loss for the Pirates. Dewitt also blocked a kick.

Lucas Parker was credited with a tackle, a quarterback sack and a fumble recovery, and Davis Ross had two tackles, both for a loss, and an assist.

The FBMS Pirates play at Bolles Oct. 7 and at Yulee Oct. 14. Kickoff for both matchups is 6:30 p.m.
