The Pirates fired a season low on Thursday to beat Hilliard at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The Fernandina Beach High School boys golf team posted a 141 to defeat the Flashes (204).
“Best nine-hole score this season and last few years,” said Christina Steffen, head boys and girls golf coach at FBHS. “I have been waiting for this breakthrough.
“This team is full of talent. They had a total of nine birdies among the boys today. A couple started a little rough with bogeys and doubles then got their games together to shoot one over as a team.”
Senior captain Brady Steffen led the way. He was medalist with a three under par 32. Colson Hale was even par at 36, and Jake Chenoweth and Hudson Dye were both two over with 37s.
“Pretty great day for the Pirates,” Coach Steffen said.
The Pirates take on host Bishop Kenny Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Blue Cypress. They are back home Oct. 2 for a rematch with Hilliard at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club, and they host Fletcher Oct. 8 at Amelia River. FBHS is back at the city course Oct. 9 to host Yulee. The match is at 4 p.m.
