The Pirates’ win streak was snapped Friday night. The visiting Santa Fe Raiders spoiled homecoming for the Fernandina Beach High School football team, which dropped to 5-1 with the 37-27 loss.
The Raiders got the ball rolling, scoring on a 1-yard run in the first quarter. The Pirates responded with a 2-yard touchdown run by Fred Jones to knot the score at 7-7.
Santa Fe sandwiched a pair of touchdowns around another Jones TD, this time from 2 yards out, in the second quarter to go up 21-14.
Beckham Rohe reeled in an 18-yard TD pass from Ian Miller to open the third-quarter scoring and even the score at 21-21. Santa Fe took a 24-21 lead with a 36-yard field goal.
The Raiders tacked on two more TDs in the fourth quarter to increase their lead to 37-21. Miller connected with Rohe for a 7-yard TD pass to cut into the visitors’ lead 37-27.
Miller completed 21 of 44 passes for 268 yards and a pair of TDs. Aydin Poe was his favorite target with nine receptions for 138 yards. Ethan Watts hauled in five passes for 56 yards, Rohe had three for 35 and two touchdowns, Khordel White had three receptions for 26 yards, and D’ante Simms had one for 13.
Traivon Martin led the rushing attack, with seven carries for 41 yards. Simms had four for 21.
Rohe, who also had five solo tackles and four assists, intercepted two passes. Poe had four tackles and for assists, Devin Murray had two stops and eight assists, Tanner Duffy recorded two tackles and six assists, Cayden McKinstrie had four tackles and three assists, and Kevin Ortiz had a tackle and seven assists.
The Pirates head to Callahan Friday to take on the West Nassau Warriors, whose win streak was broken Friday by Yulee. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Warrior Field.
