Pirates best West Nassau 153-183

The Pirates hosted the Warriors on Tuesday. The Fernandina Beach High School boys golf team defeated West Nassau 153-183 at the Amelia River Golf Club.

Colson Hale led the Pirates with a 36, followed closely by teammates Brady Steffen (37) and Sam Chenoweth (39). Jake Chenoweth shot a 41, Hudson Dye a 42 and Doug Stacy a 47.

The boys host Hilliard today, Sept. 25.

The Pirates played in big invitational tournaments recently, finishing eight out of 13 teams at an event at Atlantic Beach Country Club hosted by Fletcher and seventh out of 10 teams at the Battle at the Beaches 18-hole tourney at Marsh Landings hosted by Ponte Vedra.

Hale and Steffen both turned in 77s in the Fletcher event, followed by Dye (84), Sam Chenoweth (85), Jake Chenoweth and Wood Young (both with 86).

In the Battle at the Beaches, Hale led the Pirates with a three-under-par 69 to tie for third place overall. Steffen shot a 75, Jake Chenoweth an 85, Dye and 86 and Sam Chenoweth shot a 90.

The Pirates left Marsh Landings and headed to Bent Creek to play Trinity Christian in a nine-hole match. FBHS won 150-165.

Hale shot another three-under round 33. Steffen shot a one-under 35. Dye posted a 40, Jake Chenoweth a 42, Sam Chenoweth a 43 and Lucas Lomond a 44.

The boys beat Bishop Kenny 154-168 the following day. Hale and Steffen were co-medalists with a one-over 37. Jake Chenoweth shot 39, Sam Chenoweth 41, and Dye and Wood Young both had 42s.

“The boys continue to have a competitive schedule, looking forward to another invitational on Sept. 29 back at Marsh Landings hosted by Providence,” said Christina Steffen, head boys and girls golf coach at FBHS. “These will help prepare the guys for postseason.”

The FBHS girls were also home this week. The Pirates beat Atlantic Coast High School on Monday at Fernandina Beach Golf Club.

Elle Reisner led the way, shooting a 37. Emma Genovese posted a 46, Zoey Gamba a 49, Carmen Green a 63, McKayla Pollack a 64 and Reese Talbert a 66.

The girls lost to Bishop Kenny on Wednesday at Deercreek Country Club in Jacksonville. Reisner was medalist with a 38. Genovese shot a 54, Pollack a 61, Talbert a 64 and Andie Moeller a 73.

The FBHS girls beat Yulee 191-260, and Reisner was medalist with a one-under 35. Genovese shot a 48, Gamba a 49, Raleigh Simmons a 59, Ellie Adams a 61 and Pollack a 65.

The FBHS girls have matches this week against Atlantic Coast and Bishop Kenny.

“These should be two good matches for the girls,” Coach Steffen said. “Both teams are in the middle their seasons and looking forward to a lot more good golf ahead.”

The FBHS teams will be hosting the district tournaments at 8 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club.
