The future of certain public access points in Hilliard will be decided next month, as the Town Council schedules a final vote on two ordinances proposing the formal abandonment of specific public paths. The final reading and a public hearing are set for Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. at Hilliard Town Hall.
The ordinances, 2025-14 and 2025-15, are necessary steps to formally “vacate and abandon specific sections of public access right-of-way,” as stated in the official public notice.
Ordinance 2025-14 specifically targets an unused public alleyway located within Block 93 of the West Portion of Hilliard. Ordinance 2025-15 seeks to abandon a section of the public right-of-way designated as West Eighth Avenue between Georgia Street and Virginia Street.
The Town is providing residents a final opportunity to comment on the proposals before the council proceeds to a vote. The decision to vacate a public path is often pursued when the land is deemed unessential for public use and is typically requested by adjacent property owners.
