Fernandina Beach Middle School honored a volunteer who has given 34 years of service by naming the sixth-grade building the Beano Roberts Veteran Hallway.
Beano Roberts, a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman who served aboard the USS Missouri from 1951 to 1952, volunteers at FBMS four hours a day, five days a week. He tutors math students and supports teachers across campus.
Roberts’ connection to the school spans decades. He served as PTO president in 1964 and has been on the School Advisory Committee since 2006.
“Mr. Roberts is the definition of commitment and community spirit,” school officials said on the school’s social media. “His impact on FBMS is immeasurable, and we are so grateful for his service – both to our country and to our school.”
Over his 34 years of volunteering, Roberts has helped thousands of students, according to the school’s social media.
