Fernandina Beach Middle School secured the Nassau County championship with a 30-20 win Tuesday night at Yulee. FBMS went 7-1 this season.
“I’m so proud of our team,” said Raleigh Green, head football coach at FBMS. “It was an intense, exciting game. Both teams played extremely hard, and it was a fight until the last play. Our young men stepped up and made the big plays when we needed them, and we were able to get the win in the end.”
Marhean Coleman had 10 rushes for 83 yards for FBMS. On defense, he recorded seven tackles and four assists and intercepted a pass. Jakaden Myers rushed seven times for 47 yards and a Pirate touchdown. He also had a tackle and three assists.
Pirate quarterback Connor Goodman completed two of three passes for 19 yards and had seven carries for 29 yards and a Pirate TD. He also had a pair of tackles and an assist for the defense.
Ray Bell had two catches for 19 yards for FBMS. He also returned a 55-yard fumble for a touchdown. Bryce Schrader had a carry for 12 yards, and he also had three tackles and two assists.
Pirate Jha’lil Jamison had two tackles and four assists, and he forced a fumble. Jakob Floyd recorded one tackle and one assist, and he returned an interception 95 yards for a score.
Cash Dewitt had two tackles, both for a loss, and an assist for FBMS. Ethan Fine had two tackles.
