FBHS swimmers host county teams in season opener

The Pirate swim team opened the season with a splash on Thursday, winning 15 of 22 events in the four-team meet featuring all Nassau County teams. Both the Fernandina Beach High School girls and boys teams took first place.

The FBHS girls, with 144 points, beat Yulee (118), West Nassau (62) and Hilliard (38). The boys took first place with 115 points, defeating West Nassau (107), Yulee (93) and Hilliard (17).

FBHS won the girls 200-yard medley relay in 1:58.66; the FBHS boys won the event in 1:46.37.

Rileigh Revere of FBHS won the girls 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.65. Yulee’s Emilia Dupee was second in 2:14.47. Logan Cook of FBHS won the boys 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.03, and teammate Mason Pickett was second in 2:09.75.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Skyler Revere of FBHS was first for the girls in 2:21.19 and Shelby Rothenburg, also of FBHS, was second in 2:46.50. The boys winner was Michael Tarzia of FBHS in 2:17.43. West Nassau’s Trevor Singley was second in 2:21.22.

Kailah Thompson of Yulee won the girls 50-yard freestyle in 25.07. FBHS’s Cora Foxwell-Jones was second in 26.13. Dylan Brooks of FBHS was the boys winner in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 23.85. Yulee’s Lucas Flannery was second in 27.26.

Thompson also won the girls 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:00.04. Skyler Refere was second in 1:04.44. In the boys 100-yard butterfly, Tarzia was first (1:03.75) and Yulee’s Rhyen Atterberry (1:14.09) was second.

Emma Anderson of Hilliard won the girls 100-yard freestyle in 1:04.12. Adalia Kniatkowski of FBHS was second in 1:06.18. Brooks won the boys 100-yard freestyle in 53.94. Nick Wentworth of West Nassau was second in 1:03.06.

Dupee won the girls 500-yard freestyle in 6:01.97, and FBHS’s Belen Conley was second in 6:29.57. Singley won the boys 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:37.82. Nate Morris of FBHS was second in 6:15.50.

The FBHS girls won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:53.71. Yulee won the boys event in 1:51.38, and the team included Atterberry, Flannery, Brantley Bowen and Jonah Vasilas.

Foxwell-Jones won the girls 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:03.06. Anderson was second in 1:15.78. Cook took first place in the boys event in 58.56. West Nassau’s Will Ritzdorf was second in 1:15.78.

Rileigh Revere placed first in the girls 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.66. Yulee’s Graicyn Collins was second in 1:30.66. Vasilas won the boys event in 1:15.72; Hilliard’s Trent Purvis was second in 1:23.

The FBHS boys and girls teams won the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Pirates face Ponte Vedra and Cornerstone Sept. 2 at Planet Swim and are back home Sept. 4 with Yulee and Suwannee.
