home this week. The FBHS girls opened their season Wednesday at
Amelia River, where they hosted Providence. The boys took on Trinity
Thursday at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club.
The girls lost to Providence 197-205. FBHS junior Elle Reisner was
medalist with an even round of 36. Senior team co-captain Zoey Gamba
shot a 50. Emma Genovese, a junior, posted a 57, senior Raleigh
Simmons shot 62, sophomore Ellie Adams had a 62, and sophomore
Reese Talbert turned in a 64.
“Girls have a great season ahead and will continue to improve
throughout the season,” said Christina Steffen, head girls and boys golf
coach at FBHS. “I’m excited for the season and hope for another state
finals return.”
In their match on Thursday, the FBHS boys defeated their guests 151- 170. Senior team captain Brady Steffen and junior Jake Chenoweth were co-medalists with 37s. Junior Colson Hale was close behind with a38, junior Hudson Dye was two strokes behind at 39, and freshmen
Sam Chenoweth shot a 40 and Wood Young a 43.
The Pirates opened their season last week, hosting Bolles Aug. 19 at
the Amelia River Golf Club. The visitors prevailed 153-161. Hale posted
the low score for FBHS with a 39. Dye had a 40, Steffen and both
Chenoweths recorded 41s, and junior Lucas Lomond shot a 48.
“This is a really strong team this year,” Coach Steffen said. “That first
match with Bolles, I think they were super anxious knowing they can
score low as a team. Look out for them scoring low in lots of events.”
The boys face Yulee Sept. 9 at North Hampton. The match starts at 4
p.m. The girls host Stanton at 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at Amelia River.
