The Amelia Island Museum of History will present “Surviving the Titanic” with longtime docent Chip Kirkpatrick at noon Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Nassau County Public Library’s Fernandina Beach Branch, 25 N. Fourth St.
Kirkpatrick will share the story of his former Jacksonville neighbors who survived the 1912 Titanic disaster as children ages 9 and 11.
“In 1976, my wife and I were newlyweds and had purchased our first home in the Avondale area on the west side of Jacksonville,” Kirkpatrick said. “We learned the man who lived in a tiny bungalow behind us — and his sister, then ages 9 and 11 — were Titanic survivors.”
The presentation is part of the museum’s Brown Bag Lunch series, which has been temporarily relocated to the library through Dec. 7 while The Maple Leaf exhibit occupies the museum’s lecture hall. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. No food is permitted in the lecture room.
Admission is free. Seating is first-come, first-served. The program is wheelchair accessible.
