Spring break swim lessons

The city of Fernandina Beach Parks & Recreation Department is offering swim lessons at both the Atlantic and Martin Luther King Jr. centers. Lessons will be offered during spring break, March 14-18, at the MLK pool.

Classes for Tadpole (six months to 3 years old), Manatee (beginners 3 and up) and Sea Turtles (advanced beginners). Call 904-310-3350 or email LG****@**fl.city for information.

Private swim lessons are available at the Atlantic pool March 3 through April 11. Classes are twice a week; pick your time each day.


Paella Night for NSFA

The Nassau Sport Fishing Association will hold its monthly social Feb. 25 in the Kraft Athletic Club banquet hall. It’s Paella Night, and it gets underway at 6:15 p.m.

The club is serving up the paella over saffron rice, and members are asked to bring sides to share — tapas, salads, charcuterie, veggies, churros and flan. And, don’t forget serving utensils.

Scholarships for YHS pair

Brooke Reid and Haley Ross of Yulee High School have been offered athletic scholarships to play flag football at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.

Fernandina Beach Babe Ruth will launch its 8U Pirate Academy today, Feb. 18, for prospective players for the spring season. It’s from 5:30-7 p.m. at the senior field at Buccaneer Field.

Players will be grouped by skill level and rotate weekly through structured drill stations.


Register for youth football

Yulee will hold in-person registration for youth football on March 1, noon to 2 p.m. to returning players and 2-4 p.m. for new players. Fee is $350 for football and $325 for cheerleading.

Athletes will be fitted at registration. There will be just one team per age group, so mark it on your calendar. There will be no online registration.
