The season got underway Tuesday night for the Fernandina Beach High School softball team. The FBHS Pirates hosted the Raines Vikings.

The home team jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 22-4 rout. FBHS scored 10 more runs in the second inning, and the game ended after the top of the third, when Raines failed to score again.
The Pirates had 12 hits on the night, with Sophie Bland (pair of doubles), Rylee Murallo (double, triple and seven RBIs) and Reese Hardeman (double and two RBIs) had two hits apiece. Alivia Brown (three RBIs and a home run), Hazlee Spivey, Brooke Agnew (RBI), Kacey Stewart (RBI), Adriana Lavoie (RBI) and Vivienna Lavoie had a hit each.
Brown and Spivey stole one base each.
Stewart got the win on the mound. She went all three innings, giving up four runs on one hit, walking four and striking out four.
FBHS lost to Bishop Snyder 11-1 on Thursday. Chloe Gotto threw a no-hitter, striking out nine and walking one — Cailihn Andree, who scored the lone run for the Pirates.
The Pirates (1-1) travel to First Coast Monday, Feb. 23. FBHS is back home Tuesday with the West Nassau Warriors. First pitch is at 6 p.m. for both games.
